MY TAKE ON BOOK 1&2
Book 1 & 2- 6 stars( this book deserves it)
“No mourners, No funerals”
Let us take a moment to stare at the cover, the wing outlining the towers and the crow outlining the kingdom!!!…just beautiful!!
I didn’t have my blog back then when I first read Six of Crows so this is a combined review for the duology series by the genius Leigh Bardugo.
This is the only book where I was actually visualizing each and every scene in my head throughout the book. It was like a private movie for me:D
Kaz Brekker ( whom I’m sure is every girls’s crush after they finish reading the book) is a criminal prodigy who decides to pull off a deadly heist with an amazing crew. Since we have the character art on those beautiful deck of cards lets meet the six of crows:)
Kaz Brekker, criminal prodigy, the main brains behind all the plans. He is also known as Dirtyhands feared by everyone in Ketterdam. He is the leader of the crew. He is crippled and requires a cane (which has a crow’s head)for support. Kaz is ruthless , arrogant and leads his life with his greed and cruelty. He is the smartest guy and god you can’t help but fall for him.
He deals with the demons from the his past in both the books. We also get to see Kaz’s vulnerable side in CK and at one point he gets ready to risk his life for his crew (which is shocking if you know Kaz).
Inej, also known as Wraith. She is the only one that Kaz trusts wholeheartedly. She is a suli girl who was kidnapped at a young age and was sold to a pleasure house in Ketterdam where she was tortured and almost killed. She is later saved by Kaz when he later offers her an opportunity to serve the Dregs as their spy. Inej is such a bad ass character but she cannot function without her knives. She is silent, lethal and beautiful inside and out.
She cares about her friends(crew) and risks her life many times to save them. She also moves like a spider climbing incinerators, building, literally everything.
Nina, a Grisha (heartrender). She can control people’s organs and internal functions. She can kill anyone just by looking at them. She is a flirt and as described in the book will literally flirt with anything. She loves eating:P She served as a warrior in the Grisha army and will do anything for the welfare of the Grisha community. She is another bad-ass heroine.
She is cunning, charismatic and can literally charm the pants off anybody.
Matthias, a druskelle and was one of the top warriors. He was trained to hunt Grisha and he comes across Nina and later ends up in a prison. In SoC, he is rescued by Kaz n crew and is forced to help them with their mission in exchange for his freedom. He has a love/hate relationship with Nina which later turns into loveeee:).
He is loyal, dedicated, religious, and brave. At the beginning he hates Kaz but later comes to respect his decisions.
Jesper, a sharpshooter and ——-(u need to read the book to know that). He is a long- struggling gambling addict. He is deep in debts. He is absolutely adorable and such a funny character. He always tries to prove his loyalty to Kaz. He is the most willing member to take on the mission as he wants to pay off his debts.
He is full of energy and as usual his pistols are his life. He loves his life in Ketterdam. He is fun, lovable, and jolly:)
Last but not the least, Wylan, the non criminal guy in the crew. He is the son of the guy who enlisted Kaz to them to this dangerous mission. Wylan is an expert in chemistry( creating bombs with various compositions), a great artist( draws the entire layout of the ice court with the descriptions provided by Matthias). His POV is not given in Soc but is given in CK.
The double faced on the card will be explained in the book. We get to see more of his character development in the second book.
Now onto the SHIPS
- Kaz and Inej- OMG!!!!…my number 1 ship. Just love the interactions between the two of them. Both of them have a horrible past and each scene between Kaz and Inej is like breaking down the walls around Kaz-BRICK by BRICK!!!. Kaz and Inej struggle to express their feelings. Love the way the author has shown the characters. I was literally shouting when Kaz just wanted to touch her but couldn’t. The second book showed Kaz’s vulnerable side and the part where Kaz touches Inej without his gloves had me on the edge and I kept re-reading that chapter. Just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
- Nina and Matthias- The hot and sizzling couple. Nina constantly flirting with Matthias and him blushing was sooo dam cute. The barbarian and princess story just had me ROTFL. The love/hate relationship was shown beautifully in the book like the parts where Matthias just wanted to kill her but also love her at the same time.
- Jasper and Wylan- Cute and adorable couple. Jasper teasing Wylan all the time just to get a rise out him. We also get to see Wylan who is shy type start caring about Jasper.
Usually when there is a book with so many main characters I don’t like all of them but this is the first book which I’ve read where I lovedddd all the six main characters!!! You just get sucked into the book. The friendship between Inej and Nina was awesome( BFF goals)!!! Another thing I have to mention is the cameo appearances by our favorite characters from the Grisha trilogy:))))))). I was lucky enough to have read the trilogy before starting this series and loved the surprises in the book.
I could actually go on and on about this book but I’m going to stop myself now. Guys you better read both the books. This is a must read and has a special place on my top shelf books. Leigh Bardugo is a genius. Let me tell you, she has created a MASTERPIECE. I wouldn’t be surprised if this book gets adapted into to a tv series/movie because she has done such an incredible job. HATS OFF TO HER!!!! She has said that this is a duology for now but hoping for another book in this series:)
LOSE YOURSELF IN THE GRISHAVERSE!!!!!!
