Title: Three Dark Crowns
Author: Kendare Blake
Release Date: September 20th, 2016
Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.
If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest.
MY TAKE ON THIS BOOK
This was one of the books in my” Can’t wait Books ” list so obviously I had very high expectations and this book didn’t disappoint me at all. The plot and the cover were so dark and mysterious that I badly wanted to read this book and now that I have finished it I want the sequel like…RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Three Black Witches are born in a glen,
sweet little triplets
will never be friends.
Three Black Witches, all fair to be seen
two to devour
and one to be queen
When I read those 6 lines I heard it like in a dark and mysterious kinda voice in my head which was creepy and awesome:D. I really loved how the author has portrayed each sister in the book.
The three sisters
- Katharine- the posioner. She is actually very weak and has been trained by Natalia (another poisoner). She has been poisoned throughout her life so she can build her immunity towards them which in turn has made her body frail and covered in scabs. She is the only sister who doesn’t actually have any friends. She later falls in love with Natalia’s nephew, Pietyr who takes it upon himself to help Katharine attract suitors. His intentions are still not clear.
- Arsinoe- the naturalist. Her powers are nonexistent. Her friend, Jules is also a naturalist and a powerful one too. I felt that the story focused too much on Jules and not on Arsinoe but it changes as we move towards the end. She is the only one who actually leads a kinda normal life compared to her sisters. She is extremely loyal to her friends and would do anything for them. Arsinoe and Billy(one of the early suitors) have something going on between them(friendship or love?…what do you think?).
- Mirabella- the elemental. She has the strongest power compared to her sisters and-and clearly in the lead in the race to the crown. She is the sweetest sister and she genuinely cares about them in spite of being separated from them for soo many years and doesn’t want to harm them. She is my favorite sister from all the sisters. There is also some romance between Mirabella and Joseph( Jules’ boyfriend) and the whole love triangle thing going on there.
Honestly, the first few chapters of the book wasn’t that interesting but trust me as you read more the book will become so addicting that you can’t keep the book down. Each chapter was different with the storyline of each sister and how they are struggling with their powers and life.
Joseph- Dude you can’t have both Jules and Mirabella. Poor guy is caught between his childhood love for Jules and lust for Mirabella. So you better decide who you want buddy!!!.
This book messed up my predictability skills at certain parts of the book and left me awestruck with all the twists and surprises. The funny thing was that all the three sisters tried to escape but they couldn’t stay hidden for long.
This book was one fantastic read and the cliffhanger…OMG!!!….it was more like linehanger!!!….That one line just changed the whole game for the sequel!!!
AWESOME BOOK!!!…YOU GUYS BETTER READ IT!!!!!:) AND TRUST ME YOU WILL BE BEGGING FOR MORE!!!!
